About the brand ISABEY

The Isabey perfume house was founded in Paris in the turbulent 20s, when French perfumery was experiencing another boom. Baron Henry James de Rothschild, who founded the company in 1924, invested in its foundation Société Parisienne d’Essences Rares & de Parfums.

History ISABEY

Brand name, Isabey is a reference to the French origin of the brand and the art world. The Rothschild family owned several works by Eugene Isabey, a 19th–century watercolorist.

The entire Isabey perfume project was created for the famous Paris Decorative Arts Exhibition – perfumer Robert Bieneme created several fragrances at once, the design of bottles and packaging was entrusted to the famous designer Julien Viard and the house of Sorys.

The exhibition featured fragrances grouped into two collections, exotic (La Route d’Emeraude, Bleu de Chine, Le Chypre Celtic, L’Ambre de Carthage, Sir Gallahad) and floral (Le Mimosa, Lilac, Jasmine d’isabey, Gardenia, Lys Noir). The presentation of a set of six Isabey fragrances in the form of a pearl necklace Le Collier d’isabey, created by Andre Jolivet, received the Gold Medal of the exhibition.

Immediately after the exhibition, boutiques Isabey appeared in the UK and in the USA.

Isabey perfume bottles were manufactured at Baccarat, Bobin Freres Glassworks and René Lalique factories.

After World War II, the Isabey brand, acquired in 1941 by Marcel Guerlain, declined. It was only at the end of the 20th century that it was acquired by the French company PANOUGE and brought back to life with the help of Jean Jacques, a perfumer from the Japanese Takasago corporation.

Art Deco diamond-shaped vials were first developed by Czech glazier Ludwig Moser in 1925.

Like the brand’s perfume style, the new owners have left historical names to many fragrances.
